The client turned to us with the goal of creating an all-in-one, global marketplace that could initially serve the South African market and had the potential to expand internationally. Due to the platform's extensive requirements and diverse service integrations, determining the exact specifications for the project was challenging, but we handled this.
Our focus was on creating a scalable and user-friendly platform capable of expanding from a local service to a global brand, all while adhering to a client's tight budget and maintaining high quality.
We solved diverse technical hurdles, such as building a payment system to manage multiple currencies and cross-border transactions, and integrating platforms like Stripe and PayPal. Coordinating a distributed team to develop the frontend, backend, and user experience cohesively was also a crucial challenge.
We started with a comprehensive discovery phase that included competitor research and crafting a Lean Canvas model to guide the project. We then developed a design prototype using Figma.
One of the major challenges of this project was integrating payment systems like Stripe, PayPal, and Paystack, as these typically require a significant amount of documentation and an established user base for payout capabilities. Since we were building a worldwide platform from scratch without existing users, this posed a unique obstacle.
Through detailed research and strategic negotiations, we secured early-stage integration agreements with PayStack and PayPal, enabling the platform to support global transactions from the start.
The core functionalities we added included user profiles for service providers and clients, a sophisticated payment system, an admin panel, an escrow service for secure transactions, tools for creating and listing services, multilingual support, and chat features.
The eBig5 project was successfully completed, resulting in a robust and scalable service marketplace designed to connect users with various services. Our comprehensive approach ensured that the platform met the client's vision for a user-friendly and future-proof solution.
A major achievement was integrating complex payment systems. Despite the challenge of launching without an established user base, we secured early-stage agreements with Stripe, PayPal, and Paystack, allowing for multi-currency transactions from day one.
The platform was built using a strong tech stack with PHP (Laravel) for the backend and React.js with Typescript for the frontend, ensuring speed and reliability. Key features like user profiles, a secure escrow system, service creation tools, and multilingual support were successfully implemented.
Communication tools such as notifications and chat, along with an advanced admin panel, were integrated to enhance user engagement and management.
